I went out to somewhere to get something done today. By the time i got everything done and was in my car driving home, it was 12.30 noon. Had an apple as breakfast made me quite hungry. It was the timing and the feeling that reminded me of the thing that i miss since quite sometime ago.
It is my mum's cooking. You see, my mum is a career woman. She used to have a shift working hour. But when she was promoted to be a Sister, her working hour was changed to office hour. We were so lucky to stay in a small town where you can reach home from anywhere within 10 min or even less. Thus, mum will make her afford everyday to rush home during the lunch break to cook for us. Even though she cooked at most only 2 dishes per lunch, those were very delicious and filling lunch. Mind you, she only had 1 hour lunch break and she managed to feed the whole family within that time. What I felt today that made me recall all these was my hunger. Last time when I was hungry and was on my way home with my motorbike from school, I knew my hunger will only last for a while because mum was waiting at home with her home-cooked-delicious-lunch.
Now, the dishes. Mum is a very simple lady. I guess i inherited this from her. She likes to cook simple and healthy food. Due to time constrain, she only managed to cook at most 2 dishes per lunch and that's quite rare. Normally she only cooked a dish which include all the vitamins, carbohydrate, protein, etc. I remembered she cooked some beans with egg and hot dogs and that feed us all. She also liked to cook chicken with oyster sauce and she will put in some potatoes, or sweet potatoes, or cabbage, carrot, etc...I always like mum's preserved china vege (lak chai) with pork soup. I could eat that until i was too full.
Some of you must be asking, where did mum have time to do the shopping? Mum bought the vege and meat in the morning, 6.30am, before she went to work. Since it was a small town, she managed to buy everything she needed within 30 minutes. Sometimes, she even managed to buy me breakfast because i was always the latest person to go to school. lol...Sometimes, mum also cooked something from our garden. That was way too healthy.
I don't have any pictures to show what i've just said. Just wanna let my mum know that I appreciate and miss what she did for us. Love you mummy.
